I don’t wanna go to school I just want to play guitar I hope you don't think I'm a fool I just think it’ll get me more far than working hard Tear down a wall Tear down a wall Because you weren't always this bald I don't wanna go to work I just wanna lay in bed Hope you don't think I'm a jerk I’m not trying to get ahead Tear down a wall Tear down a wall Because you weren't always this bald Tear down a wall

Mama Tried 07:37
The first thing I remember knowing Was a lonesome whistle blowing And a young gun's dream of growing up to ride On a freight train leaving town Not knowing where I'm bound No one could change my mind, but mama tried One and only rebel child From the family, meek and mild My mama seemed to know what lay in store Despite all my Sunday learning Towards the bad I kept on turning 'Til mama couldn't hold me anymore And I turned 21 in prison, doing life without parole No one could steer me right but mama tried, mama tried Mama tried to raise me better but her pleading, I denied That leaves only me to blame 'cause mama tried Dear old daddy, rest his soul Left my mom a heavy load She tried so very hard to fill his shoes Working hours without rest Wanted me to have the best She tried to raise me right but I refused I turned 21 in prison, doing life without parole No one could steer me right but mama tried, mama tried Mama tried to raise me better but her pleading, I denied Leaves only me to blame 'cause mama tried

Clerk he wrote it down indeed-e Judge decreed it, clerk he wrote it down Give you this jail sentence you'll be Nashville bound Some got six month some got one solid. Some got one solid year indeed-e Some got six month some got one solid. But me and my buddies all got lifetime here I wrote a letter I mailed in, Mailed it on the air indeed-e I wrote a letter I mailed in the air. You may know by that I've got a friend somewhere

Ceilings 09:42
I've got a secret I'd like to tell I guess I'll send it in the mail. My old pal sees me out here getting screwed I swear I got no attitude When I'm out walking I'm out on bail and when I'm home I'm back in jail. I talk with strangers and friends the same Along the way I hear your name. Oh, I come back down again. You know well I've got to make amends. This thing was no trainwreck. It's a shame. I let go no raincheck, played the game. I get drunk on weekends, how you feel? I live life with regrets and keep it real.

Horses 07:28
Scissor kick your little sis Backed into the scissor lift Try pick the paper and the winner You're growing up so goddamned fast Where were you out skipping class Inside the world with mother nature Climb aboard this rusty spoon with sharpened knives and wooden shoes candle wax and super glue the ticket Eyes wide open stapled up. Horses ate your tablecloth. You just now heard of Wilson Pickett Someone spilled oil on my new shirt Someone broke my heart and it hurt I'm itching my way into an itchy wool sweater I'll start the day when I start feeling better. Mustang Sally, Sally Sue Oh she ate that superglue, and Horses, they can be cannibalistic That funny taste the glue was laced Damn near made a Federal case Out of this whole situation I'm a cowboy cast in stone I eat my meals I eat alone Suddenly I feel so altruistic From him and her to me and you whoever ate the superglue I hope you enjoy these fascinations Someone spilled oil on my new shirt Someone broke my heart and it hurt I'm itching my way into an itchy wool sweater I'll patent the deed when I start feeling better.

Go It Alone 07:34
I'm coming over See me down at the station by the lane With my hands in my pocket Jingling a wish coin That I stole from a fountain That was drownin' All the cares in the world When I get older Climbing up on the back porch fence Just to see the dogs runnin' With a ring and a question And my shivering voice is singing Through a crack in the window I better go it alone... I better go it alone Down on the corner See me standing In a makeshift home With a dust storm comin' In a long black shadow Pull a hammer from a coal mine Down where your daddy was workin' Comb my hair back Strike a match on the bathroom wall Where my number was written Driving on the sidewalk Lookin' back at the sky It's burning in the rearview mirror I better go it alone I better go it alone I'm coming over See you down at the station by the lane With my hands in my pocket Jingling a wish coin That I stole from a fountain That was drownin' All the cares in the world When I get older Climbing up on the back fence Pointing to the dogs standin' firm With a ring and a question And my choise In a voice that was singing Underneath the window

When you lost all your marbles Thats how you met me When you called down for lightening You'll see When you moved to the city That's how you met me When you lost all your money at the horse race Call me up whenever you want to Call me up anytime Call me up when ever you want to lay awake

Keep Walking 07:30
Better dedicate a dozen or so of them gophers in the ground. You'll find a family of five getting highway downtown. It's a hyphy hayride with John Deere and the troops. I'd rather have a snake pit, boy, than bulldoze a chicken coop. Wind up the cable and fasten it to the beat Skinny dip river, salmon spawn downstream. Keep walking. I'm on a cloud. My back is broken and my dogs get loud. Cut the grass. You got a half gallon of sprouts. Get tossed into a lunch sack with the prize fighter bouts Tip of the pen sits a uniform in hat Well perched abreast to that sits a rifle and a bat Tip off the guard if you're looking to get caught Well, at least its air conditioned in my cell beneath the parking lot Keep Walking High fists at noon Somebody's making noise down in the collagen room Raise the stakes Barbeques out in back, and my wife's in the kid's room sipping on her cognac. Baby's in the cradle, he's not making a fuss. Where a kid can really be a kid, take you on back to Toys 'R' Us. Keep walking. I'm on a cloud My shoes are soaking and my thoughts get loud.

about

"The Closing of Underland!"

The Up & Under on Brady Street on Milwaukee's East side announced it would be closing after 40 years of operation as a blues and rock & roll bar, a staple of the city's music scene. They had no band lined up for their final Saturday (this was during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic) and we were dumb enough to offer to play for the night having taken the stage there frequently over the last ten years. They agreed, we showed up, the place was packed, and everyone had a great time. I never heard from anybody that they got sick, so the vaccine must have worked.

This show is unique for many reasons, but most prominent is the absence of our drummer Spencer Powers who had to back out last minute. Our good friend and extremely talented multi-instrumentalist Dan "Buddha" Budziszewski played drums for the night with no time spent practicing with us beforehand. I believe the result, this recording, is a testament to just how skilled a musician he is.
